EV Chargers
Installing an EV (Electric Vehicle) charger at home offers several key benefits:
-
Convenience
You can charge your vehicle overnight or at any time, eliminating the need to search for public charging stations. -
Cost Savings
Charging at home is often cheaper than public chargers, especially if you utilize off-peak electricity rates. -
Faster Charging
Home chargers, especially Level 2 units, provide faster charging than a standard wall outlet, ensuring your EV is ready when you need it. -
Increased Home Value
An EV charger can add value to your property as electric vehicles become more popular. -
Sustainability
It supports a greener lifestyle, allowing you to contribute to reducing emissions while conveniently charging from home. Chargers can be powered by wind energy, solar energy or from the grid.
According to the Mobility Monitor report, undertaken by EV Box, where thousands of EV drivers (and potential EV drivers) across Europe were interviewed, the most popular place to charge an electric car in the UK is at home.
68 percent of interviewees prefer charging at home compared to other charging locations. Not surprising, as charging at home conveniently enables electric car drivers to wake up to a fully charged vehicle every day, and ensures that they do not pay a penny more than the electricity they actually consume against the household’s electricity price.
A Level 2 charger is any standard AC charging point that you may find mounted to a wall, on a pole, or standing in the ground. Typically, only Level 2 chargers will be installed at residential properties. Level 2 charging stations commonly deliver anywhere between 3.4 kW - 22 kW. At the maximum output of 22 kW, an hour’s charging will provide roughly 75 miles to your battery’s range. Combined with a range of intelligent functionalities, smart connectivity options, and a range of safety features that Level 2 chargers have to offer, many EV drivers invest in an AC charging point for home. With AC charging, the power flow to an EV is flat (meaning that it will charge at the same speed from 0-100 percent full) in order to the protect the battery from a power surge.
